There is no denying that there are a lot fewer blogs than there used to be. I've always preferred the format to other forms of social media because I have much more control over the way I present content. Blogging also allows me to choose whether or not I want to display ads (I don't). I think The Guardian summed it up best in an article published a few months ago.

Seriously. This blog is my favorite ever. Also, I love the new tab to your Instagram page in the left column -- I like to be able get to your Twitter and Instagram easily, so it's nice to have them there.
